Letter from the Dean

Dr Joe Greer

Welcome to Roseman University College of Medicine!

I am thrilled to announce that the Roseman University College of Medicine (RUCOM) has been granted preliminary accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and is actively recruiting its inaugural class of students. RUCOM is here to produce the healthcare workforce of the future, developing clinically excellent, community-based, socially accountable, humble, compassionate, and inclusive physicians who will work to decrease health disparities in Nevada.

Our innovative Roseman Readiness Curriculum stands at the forefront of medical education. This highly integrated curriculum emphasizes patient care in the context of today’s innovations and advances, where diagnostic and therapeutic skills are learned immediately alongside foundational basic and health systems sciences. Students are trained to communicate flexibly, authentically, and respectfully with patients, caregivers, colleagues, and other healthcare team members to navigate our changing healthcare landscape effectively.

The curriculum is competency-based and delivered in active learning formats that empower students to take charge of their own learning and develop habits for lifelong education. Through GENESIS, our household-centered care delivery model, students work with faculty physicians and interprofessional teams to manage groups of households as practices, merging learning with community service and incorporating value-based metrics in decision-making.

Distinctively, our MD program incorporates a character-based curriculum designed to develop students’ character, ethics, and virtue. We believe that humility and integrity are as crucial as medical knowledge, and we are committed to cultivating compassionate, ethical physicians who don’t just treat diseases but truly care for patients with empathy, respect, and moral courage.

We will lead the State and region in creating technological strategies to achieve academic excellence and advance effective and inclusive health delivery systems. We are developing a pipeline of potential local and regional students that extends beyond the College of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry, fostering lifelong learning and service to improve health across Nevada’s urban, rural, and frontier communities.

At the College of Medicine, we are building a pipeline from Nevada to educate and train the future health professional workforce of the state. We are executing the most cutting-edge curriculum with the most up-to-date educational innovations and technology, immersed in the most vulnerable communities (both Urban and Rural) as a medical school that will be measured not just by the excellent physicians we produce and retain, but also by the improvements in the region’s health.

Our team comprises nationally and internationally known and respected scholars and medical educators, teaming up with renowned physician educators from the area. We are committed to being part of this community, to diversifying our profession, and to producing socially accountable, clinically excellent physicians who embrace the frontier can-do spirit.

As part of the Las Vegas and Southern Nevada communities, our team aims to collectively make a significant difference in an area of the country where thinking outside the box is the norm. Thank you for welcoming us; we look forward to working with all of you. Let’s make it so that what happens in Vegas is recognized around the world for excellence!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joe Greer

Strategic Plan: Discover. Design. Deliver.

The Roseman University College of Medicine Strategic Plan 2021-2026 comprises six areas of strategic focus that support the mission and vision of the school: clinical excellence; advancement and business development; education; faculty and staff success; diversity; and community partnerships. Each strategic area has an articulated goal followed by 4-6 strategies that will be used to drive success in reaching the goal. Deliberately permeating all six goal areas are strategies focused on research, technology, and GENESIS, the college’s household-centered care initiative. The name of the strategic plan – Discover, Design, Deliver – reflects the process and the outcome critical to establishing the Roseman University College of Medicine.
