Dr. Shankargouda Patil received his PhD in Medical Biotechnology from University of Siena, Italy. His thesis subject was on the effect of water pipe smoking (tobacco) on oral keratinocytes. His formative research training and experience at Hong Kong university has prepared him to be an ethical and effective researcher. He has been an academic supervisor and held the position of Associate Professor at Jazan University from 2016 to 2022. He holds a visiting professorship at the University of Siena, Department of Oral Pathology, School of Dental Medicine, Siena, Italy and in as a distinguished visiting professor at the Centre of Molecular Medicine and Diagnostics (COMManD) at Saveetha University, India.
Dr. Patil is an internationally acknowledged expert in translational research, Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders and Oral Cancer. In his career as a dental educator and academician, Dr. Patil has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on oral oncology and oral pathology which have received over 7000 citations. He has contributed to numerous textbooks. He serves on the Editorial Board of several prestigious journals. Based on data from Standford University, he is placed in the top 2% of scientists in the world across all disciplines. He is a sought after speaker at national and international forums and conferences for this expertise in the field.
