Neighborhood Health Series: My prescription costs what?? Affordable Healthcare and Drug Pricing in the U.S.

Roseman University’s Neighborhood Health Series (NHS) offers monthly in-person presentations on issues related to health and well-being. These events are free and open to the public, with a complimentary meal offered.

Many of us have experienced sticker shock learning the cost of the medications prescribed to us or a loved one. In other instances, we are pleasantly surprised by an affordable co-pay. What drives the enormous variation in pricing for prescription drugs? Who sets these prices, drug companies, insurers or providers? How do insurance companies decide what they will cover, and what they will not? And how do those without insurance grapple with the cost of needed medications? If a drug is too expensive, what can be done? Learn more about how to navigate the world of drug pricing and come away with greater confidence in understanding this complex and often opaque part of America’s healthcare system.
