Hero Scholar: Danielle Oca

Danielle Oca of Vacaville, California, has embarked on an inspiring journey in the healthcare field as she pursues a career in nursing through Roseman University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the Henderson campus. Danielle’s passion for caregiving and community service was ignited by her single mother’s dedication as a caregiver, a role that deeply influenced Danielle’s path in life.

During her high school years, Danielle discovered her ikigai—a Japanese concept that means finding one’s purpose—through her involvement in Key Club, a nonprofit volunteer organization. What began as a way to help others quickly transformed into a fulfilling experience that shaped her understanding of community and connection. From elementary school festivals to food donation drives and high school events, Danielle found joy in volunteering, not just in the work itself but in the friendships and sense of family it created. She realized that true fulfillment comes from the journey and the meaningful connections made along the way, rather than just reaching a specific career goal.

Danielle’s leadership skills were refined through her roles as Vice President and Treasurer of her Key Club. She learned that effective leadership goes beyond delegating tasks; it requires qualities like communication, open-mindedness, respect, and cooperation. These experiences taught her the importance of fostering teamwork and encouraging others to step out of their comfort zones. As she pursues her nursing education, with the support of a Hero Scholarship supported by the Las Vegas Aviators, Danielle is committed to helping others and creating meaningful connections, driven by a deep sense of purpose and compassion.
