Fun Activities In and Around Roseman University’s South Jordan Campus

Roseman’s South Jordan, Utah campus is surrounded by fun, interesting things to do when you’re not studying or in class. Check out these points of interest on your next free weekend.

Thanksgiving Point

A quick 15 minutes drive south of campus will take you to Thanksgiving Point, a unique shopping center. This 800-acre establishment includes the largest golf course in the state, complete with clubhouse, which has been lauded as one of Utah’s hidden treasures. While at Thanksgiving Point, you can also enjoy lots of shopping and dining, take in a movie on their huge IMAX screen, or watch a more traditional film at the Megaplex Theater nearby. You can also take a stroll through farm country or their extensive gardens, or learn about dinosaurs and other creatures in the Museum of Ancient Life. They have several seasonal activities, including the famous Tulip Festival, and offer cooking and gardening classes as well as activity nights for kids.

Jordan River Parkway

Utah is the 10th healthiest state in the U.S. according to a recent report, and people in Utah love to get outdoors. Almost immediately adjacent to the South Jordan campus is the Jordan River Parkway, a 40-mile paved trail running through the Salt Lake Valley. The path is open to runners, walkers and bikers, with many sections also allowing for horses. The path has bridges over or tunnels under roads, giving you uninterrupted leisure time. Some sections of the trail meet with the water and are great launching points for kayaks, canoes and rafts. Along the path, you’ll also encounter public parks, golf courses and trailheads for hikes. If you’re interested in staying or becoming active, the Jordan River Parkway is for you.

Living Planet Aquarium

The Living Planet Aquarium has a new, larger facility opening March 2014 that is packed wall-to-wall with all manner of aquatic creatures. From tropical reef fish to penguins, this aquarium’s got it all. Here you can pet a shark or feed a stingray, or walk through the shark tunnel and feel a part of their world. This informational underwater journey is fun and fascinating for all ages. There is also a bounce house and a 4D theater.

Museums

There are many museums nearby in all directions. To the south, in Provo, are several museums, including Museums of Art, Paleontology, Life Science, Earth Science, and the Museum of Peoples and Cultures, which houses exhibits about various Native American groups. To the north of Roseman, in Salt Lake City, you’ll find the Leonardo, a unique, modern gathering of science, technology and art. This museum houses world-famous attractions and hosts exclusive events. It is also near the Downtown Salt Lake City Library, a wonderful modern structure unlike any other library. And not far away, at the Gateway Center, you’ll find the Clark Planetarium, which offers space-related exhibits and movies, as well as laser shows.

Whatever your interests, you’ll find plenty of activities for you and your family right outside your door at Roseman University’s South Jordan campus.
