Roseman University College of Dental Medicine Offering Utah Children and Teens Free Back-to-School Dental Exams
Back to School Brush Up™ returns for its eighth year
Roseman University’s College of Dental Medicine is offering free dental screenings and cleanings for Utah children and teens entering grades K-12 this fall at its 8th Annual Back to School Brush Up™. The event will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday, August 4 at the College of Dental Medicine’s Roseman Dental clinic, located at 10894 S. River Front Parkway, South Jordan, Utah 84095.
No appointments are required. All children and teens served at the event will receive a voucher to return to Roseman Dental for a complimentary comprehensive exam, x-rays, and up to $100 in free additional care. For detailed information, please visit www.rosemandental.com.
Screenings and cleanings are performed by student dentists under the supervision of faculty who are licensed Utah dentists. In addition to free dental screenings and cleanings, student dentists will also provide patients and their parents with information about oral healthcare.
According to Roseman University College of Dental Medicine Dean Dr. Frank Licari, dental pain is the leading cause of school absence in the U.S.
“It is estimated that as many as 17 million children suffer from untreated tooth decay, making it the single most common chronic childhood disease in the U.S.,” said Licari, “As a result, tooth pain and other oral health problems account for about 51 million hours of missed school each year. Too many absences related to dental pain can cause children to miss a critical time in their lives when reading and writing skills start to become an educational focus. Studies have shown that these children are four times more likely to have a lower grade point average.”
Licari says regular visits to a dentist and basic education about oral health can make a big difference in a child’s growth and development.
In its eighth year, Roseman University College of Dental Medicine’s Back to School Brush Up™ serves an average of 600 children and teens annually. This year’s event is presented by Marathon Petroleum Corporation Foundation.
