SpectRUm – President’s Letter, Spring 2025

March 20, 2025 By Renee Coffman

Renee CoffmanGreetings, and thank you for taking the time to read this spring edition of Roseman University’s SpectRUm. This quarterly newsletter offers readers an inside look at the many wonderful things happening at Roseman.

First, we are happy to share the momentous achievement of our College of Medicine receiving preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). This significant milestone allowed us to begin recruiting our inaugural class of 60 medical students who will start their education journey with us in July 2025. We are actively seeking talented, compassionate, and community-oriented students who are passionate about addressing healthcare disparities. The College of Medicine’s innovative programs like GENESIS and EMPOWERED will provide our future medical students with unique opportunities to engage with underserved communities and develop the skills needed to address complex healthcare challenges. We invite prospective students who are interested in being part of this pioneering class to visit our website for application information and to learn more about our vision for medical education.

We are equally proud to announce that Roseman University has recently received the prestigious Carnegie Classification for Research, recognizing our institution’s growing contributions to scientific discovery. This classification reflects our faculty’s dedication to advancing knowledge through research and demonstrates Roseman’s mission to embrace discovery. I invite you to read more about this achievement in this issue of SpectRUm.

We also invite you to read more about two new Roseman partnerships. First, we are proud to share our partnership with PDS Health to enhance our College of Dental Medicine students’ clinical experiences. This new Roseman-PDS Health external rotation program immerses our students in PDS Health-supported practices throughout Southern Nevada under the guidance of experienced oral healthcare professionals. Also, a new partnership between the College of Medicine’s EMPOWERED program and Intermountain Health expands services and resources to pregnant and new moms with substance use disorders beyond Nevada and into Utah’s Weber and Davis counties. This collaboration addresses a critical need in Utah, where drug-induced deaths are the leading cause of pregnancy-associated death, with most cases occurring during the postpartum period.

Finally, as graduation season approaches, we prepare to celebrate the accomplishments of our students who have persevered through rigorous academic programs to emerge as knowledgeable and skilled healthcare professionals. These graduates will soon join the workforce, bringing their expertise and compassion to healthcare settings across Nevada, Utah, and the entire nation. At Roseman, we remain committed to graduating competent, confident, and caring healthcare providers who will make meaningful contributions to improving healthcare outcomes in their communities.

We hope this edition of SpectRUm provides you with valuable insights into the exciting developments and initiatives at Roseman University. Thank you for your continued support and interest in our institution.

Wishing you the best,

Renee Coffman, PhD
